Time to Act
I heard about the most polluted city report while at the car wash Tuesday morning on Good Day LA, the local Channel 11 show on FIX, excuse me, Fox TV. This is owned by the same corporation that airs Hannity, Beck, Bill O’Really, and other right wing nut jobs, so is this report surprising coming from an organization that allows the aforementioned on the air?
As the owner and I watched, he was as shocked as I. “Not a good way to start your short retreat to Santa Barbara with you daughter for her college orientation”, I said. The reporter blithely stated Cerritos is the blah, blah, blah, and then did not back it up with any facts, much like many reporters on FOX, she must be in training to move up. It got so bad that the lead anchor said, “in all fairness Cerritos is a beautiful city”. “Damn right”, I said.
So what should be done about this? I trust that the city will handle its’ own but that still leaves you and us. Call your congress-people (Linda Sanchez, Grace Napolitano), senators (Tony Mendoza, Alan Lowenthal), Supervisor Knabe, any ear you can bend and tell them that you are outraged and something needs to be done. Post your comments on our blog and we will publish, http://lccng.blogspot.com.
This paper respectfully asks our local politicians act too, and we, as the watchdog in the community, will be monitoring this closely.
It is damage control time, we were broadsided in an attack that took everyone by surprise, but the damage was done. So its time to act.

EDITOR, McMAHON TAKE ON AIR QUALITY
Facts: Cerritos is home to the national air disaster, home to many factories/warehouses and also home to recycled irrigation water to most of the city parks. Cerritos is hub to 3 freeways interchanges. Fact: Cerritos real estate value, (per square-foot), is lower than the surrounding cities: La Palma, Cypress, Los Alamitos, Rossmoor, and North Downey. Fact: Cerritos earlier days, home to many dairies and the famous landfill adjacent ADP Head quarters,; both creating potential methane gas releases. The city of Cerritos, is not always exempt from life.
City of Cerritos, has some of the poorest National air quality, and potentially environment for cancer-causing elements.
My input on all the stories from television and personal blogs, said impaired air quality is coming from the subsoil, almost 25 years plus following the national air disaster over city of Cerritos. In those days, soil contamination/ mediation was minimal, compared to today’s standards, following the national air disaster crash over Cerritos, the fallout following the air disaster, has partially dissipated and contaminated the soil and water table for a lifetime. The post remediation after the air disaster has never been tested to today’s standard and collectively gathered data, therefore, this is only speculation.
Since last couple of years, Southern California has been in a drought situation, the groundwater has changed levels, less moisture in the topsoil, so that air disaster of 25+ years ago, is percolating, ( possibly in all directions) and since the soil is dry, it is vaporizing out into the hemisphere, creating EPA substandard and a high risk for cancer causing elements.
I personally feel, following the air disaster, all the affected soil should have been removed, and imported new soil and tested on a regular basis. This is never happened. Also feel, homes should never have built over the air disaster compounds. Air disaster, has no boundaries, as I feel this EPA report, is the product of the air disaster vaporizing and spreading in to much larger diameter.
Well take it for what it’s worth, this report, comes in the wake, of an important relatives death, Ed McMahon death. Coincidental, maybe, but there’s no supporting data.

I agree with McMahon. All the problems was in the past. Living in the LA basin for 60 years and driving all over gives me an overview of air pollution.
Do NOT blame Fox news or anyone else for the bad news. Use this "Bad" news for the good. Use the Title to improved Cerritos More.
Now the City and School District can use this ammo to get us more grants. We can use this Title to get rid of the school's Diesel buses, get natural gas carpool/stations, synch traffic signals and widen the 91 & 605

Where did these guys learn their grammer? Oh well-FIX, oops FOX TV has never been confused by te facts-let's get some real testing before we condemn.
Remember the supposed source of the contamination comes from Santa Fe Springs and waffed over to the vicinity of Gahr High School, so why did an EPA report released by someone in the Obama Administration target Cerritos and not say Downey, La Mirada, Norwalk or Whittier which border Santa Fe Springs? Could it be due to the fact that the economy is in the toilet and they are fearful that the residents of the 39th Congressional District may look to throw the bums, er incumbents, out? With both L.A. County Supervisor and fmr. Cerritos Mayor Don Knabe and current Cerritos Mayor Bruce Barrows being 2 Republicans who have accomplishments that have benefitted not just Cerritos but many of the cities within the 39th Congressional District and Linda Sanchez having virtually none of real importance despite being a leader in the House Democrat caucus, muddying up the reputations of anyone coming from Cerritos by muddying the name of Cerritos is just part of the ideology of the permanent campaign. It is a real shame when the EPA is made a tool for politics.
Here we go again Hews...first Rush, Hannity, et al are racists. Then when it is pointed out (by me) that the now VP of this country made racists remarks not only about his constituents in Delaware, but his future running mate and now President, you neglect to publish these points. Be careful what you write Hews, YOU may be considered a racist. The report was release by the EPA, which is now headed by an Obama apointee, Lisa Jackson, an African-American, in fact, the first to head up the EPA. Certainly Hews, you knew this fact though. She is also some one who has had a controversial past (NO! Not an Obama appointee with a past!). Here is a link to a story from a fish wrap I am certain you Hews are very familiar with, the HUFFINGTON POST: Lisa Jackson, EPA Chief Pick, Has A Record That Raises Eyebrows. FOX had NOTHING to do with this EPA report, I heard these EPA findings on AM 790 KABC and AM 640 KFI. Thank goodness there is Fox otherwise we would have nothing else to listen to but Keith Sloberman, Rachel Madcow and those like you Hews, Obama blah, blah blah... I have very little trust in our representatives from the Congress and Senate to do anything that would actually benefit those they work for. That's right, they work for us, not the other way around.
